Chase Holland
Tough stretch for Holland at I-55 and Old No. 1
Chase Holland competed in Missouri and Arkansas from Thursday through Saturday and encountered one of his most difficult race weekends of the year.
On Thursday, Holland and the WEST Trucking No. 45 Modified crew were at I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park to take part in qualifying for the weekend's Mods Gone Wild event. At the 1/3-mile oval in Pevely, Missouri, Holland turned in both the second-quickest time in his group and the second-quickest time overall out of 43 DIRTcar UMP Modified entries.
Holland next won his heat race from the pole on Friday, but was disqualified from the evening’s Qualifier Feature after finishing fourth.
Instead of attempting to make Saturday’s $10,000-to-win main event at I-55, Holland and his team elected to travel south to the quarter-mile Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Arkansas, where they were among 44 Modified teams participating in the Heavy Duty 35 Brandon Mitchell Memorial.
Holland qualified third in his group and claimed the runner-up spot in his heat race at Old No. 1. He started seventh in the 35-lap, $5,002-to-win A-Main and was running third after 17 circuits when the yellow flag flew. On the ensuing restart, a chain reaction crash began at the front of the field, with Holland suffering multiple hard hits. He walked away unscathed, but the car was demolished and he ultimately recorded an 18th-place result as he was unable to continue.
