Chase Holland earns a Gator at DIRTcar Nationals
The second week of the DIRTcar Nationals couldn’t have started any better for Chase Holland, as the Mississippi driver earned a Modified feature win and a coveted Gator trophy at Volusia Speedway Park.
A whopping field of 102 DIRTcar UMP Modifieds were at the half-mile track in Barberville, Florida, on Monday, necessitating six 20-lap feature events. After qualifying, Holland found himself on the pole for his feature. He wired the field in his No. 45 machine en route to the $1,000 victory, taking the checkered flag just 0.275 seconds ahead of Todd Neiheiser. Third place went to Evan Taylor, with Austin Holcombe and Troy Johnson rounding out the top five.
A total of 103 Modifieds packed the pit area on Tuesday and Wednesday, meaning there were six more $1,000-to-win features each night.
On Wednesday, Holland rolled off 14th in his 15-lap feature race and had climbed to the sixth spot in the early stages before coming home ninth.
The next night, Holland started ninth and finished fifth in his 20-lapper. He chased Michael Long, Cole Czarneski, Charlie Mefford and David Stremme across the start-finish line.
Holland will remain in action at the DIRTcar Nationals from Thursday through Saturday.
