Holland takes Fairbury season opener
Chase Holland continued his stellar spring on Saturday when he picked up his 11th feature victory of the year with a triumph in the UMP DIRTcar Modified class at Fairbury (Illinois) Speedway.
Holland began his evening by qualifying his No. 45 Modified seventh out of 27 entries on hand for the quarter-mile track’s season-opening program. He drove from first to third in his heat race and started on the pole in the 25-lap, $1,500-to-win feature. Holland led twice for a total of 13 laps, taking the lead for good with a dozen circuits remaining. He crossed the start-finish line 0.509 seconds ahead of Jeff Curl, with Kyle Hammer, Steven Brooks and Lyndon Whitfill rounding out the top five.
Holland’s victory concluded a strong weekend that started on Friday in a tough MARS Modified Championship field at Kankakee County Speedway. With a $5,094 first-place prize on the line, the second Tom Pasek Memorial brought 45 Modifieds to the quarter-mile oval in Kankakee, Illinois. Holland qualified fifth in his group and took fourth in his heat. He began the 40-lap A-Main from 13th on the grid and came home sixth.
After the Kankakee event, Holland sits fourth in MARS Modified points. The series’ slated Saturday show at Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, Illinois, was washed out.
