Holland scores 1st Summit Modified Nationals win at Benton
Chase Holland began Week 4 of the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals with his first trip to victory lane in the grueling “Hell Tour.” The win came in his visit to Benton (Missouri) Speedway.
When Monday’s scheduled stop at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Arkansas, was rained out, Tuesday’s show at Benton became the week opener. Holland was one of 23 DIRTcar UMP Modified competitors in the pit area at the 3/8-mile track.
He qualified his Industrial Dock & Door Co. No. 45 Modified fifth in his group, then drove from fifth to second in his heat race. He started the 25-lap, $1,500-to-win feature from the fifth position, and after dropping to eighth on the first lap, used the cushion to move forward throughout the race. He engaged in multiple slide jobs and a physical battle with leader Tyler Nicely near the halfway point, with Holland taking the top spot on the 14th circuit.
Holland showed the way for the remainder of the race, taking the checkered flag 2.667 seconds ahead of Zach Whaley. Lucas Lee, Kenny Wallace and Austin Rettig completed the top five.
Holland’s Benton triumph was his 12th feature victory overall this season.
